We attended Omoda & Jaecoo's Super AI Night during a short trip to Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia. As its name suggests, the event's focus was on AI.
Thanks to mainstream media, the corporate and government spotlight on AI technology, everyone on earth is quite familiar and acquainted with the use of AI. Many companies have adopted AI for photo editing, research, and the creation of content and marketing materials. Likewise, general consumption of AI-generated content seems to be chugging along - even my elderly parents are watching AI dramas.
And it isn't surprising that car brands are also looking to incorporate AI in their products.
Omoda Super AI - a first outside of China
While there have been cars equipped with AI assistance in recent times - Tesla's Grok, Volvo's Google Gemini, and XPENG’s 'Xiao P', Omoda's Super AI Cockpit is the first outside of China to be powered by the ByteDance Seed Large Language Model (LLM).
With the ByteDance Seed LLM, Omoda's Super AI is able to understand five major languages - Bahasa Indonesia, Malay, Thai, English and Chinese. Omoda's implementation also sees the inclusion of 10 AI Agents within the system to meet your various needs with the car's Super AI system.
A car that understands not just your commands, but you
With a formidable Large Language Model as the 'brain', AI systems have the firepower to complete tasks that would normally require much more human intervention and time. But Omoda takes it a step further by offering an Agentic AI system that is able to work through multiple steps with minimal human intervention to reach an end-goal. This takes it a step further than your traditional chatbots, which operate in a more reactive manner, answering questions one at a time.
Although we were unable to test the system ourselves, its capabilities were demonstrated during the event. With 10 AI Agents built-in, the system is designed to meet your various needs, cater to your commands and at times even anticipate your needs - much like a human personal assistant.
During the event's showcase, the Omoda 4 equipped with the Super AI Cockpit was able to understand complicated strings of commands that include vehicle controls, navigation. The car was also able to suggest locations and complete comprehensive route planning and generating the agenda for a day. Like a personal assistant, it is also able to remember the driver's habits and routines. There is even a built-in AI image generation agent for maximum personalisation.
The next step in integrating AI to cars according to Omoda
Omoda believes that this is the next step in AI integration for cars, it wants the AI system to operate as a dedicated personal assistant that knows what you want, knows how you feel, knows your habits and what the latest trends are, to offer a connected, assisted and smart experience.
The Omoda 4 - Omoda's first car to be equipped with its Super AI system - also had its official global launch during the event in Jakarta, with the brand opening its pre-order books for the new car.
Singapore is expected to get the Omoda 4 some time next year, so we'll likely only get to experience the Omoda Super AI Cockpit then. However, if the Super AI system is truly as demonstrated, it is likely to further propel the brand to greater heights.
