  • $50 million to give buses more priority on the roads

According to Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, buses will be given even more priority on the roads to improve bus speeds and reliability.

According to The Straits Times, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said in Parliament that buses will be given even more priority on the roads to improve bus speeds and reliability.

He also mentioned that the Transport Ministry will spend about $50 million to extend existing bus priority schemes over the next two years.

Among the schemes to be extended is the bus lane scheme where a lane is designated for use by buses only during certain times of the day. Currently there are already 180km of such lanes and another 30km was promised by Mr Lui on Tuesday.

The Mandatory Give Way to Buses Scheme, which works like a yellow box near busy busy bays, will also be put in place at an additional 150 locations.

Transport Ministry Lui also said that the number of bus hubs and longer bus stops that allow several buses to pick up passengers at the same time will also be quadrupled from the existing 10 to 40.
