  • Bentley Batur features gold trim in interior, crafted from 3D printing techniques

Bentley has announced its use of a revolutionary process of 3D printing solid gold for the Bentley Batur, which it claims is an industry-first.

Bentley has introduced3D printed solid gold in the exclusive Mulliner Batur, marking this the first time this process has been used in the automotive industry. The 'additive manufacturing' technique will add up to 210 grams of 18ct yellow gold to the Batur.

The optional, 3D printed gold will be utilised on the driver touch points, including the Charisma Dial, encircling the start/stop button which is used to change driver modes.

The Charisma Dial is made out of 3D printed gold
This gold is also applied to Bentley's Organ Stop vent controls on the dashboard, as well as a gold insert marker on the steering wheel itself.

All this is possible thanks to sustainably sourced gold, sourced from 100% recycled old jewellery, and ground into a fine powder needed for 3D printing. Recycling ensures there is no environmental impact from mining for new precious metals.

Every 3D gold part in the Batur is digitally designed using CAD models, before a printing process with laser melting printers. Each is then hand finished by skilled artisan jewellers.

Bentley has spent $4.95 million to double its additive manufacturing capacity at the Crewe factory
All parts produced for the Batur are also hallmarked in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter as a sign of having solid material authenticity.

Additionally, any parts manufactured in 2022 also receive the Jubilee hallmark, celebrating the late Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee year.

In February, Bentley committed a $4.95 million investment to double additive manufacturing capacity at the Crewe factory, converting 3D CAD models into physical parts. Future applications will facilitate more low volume manufacturing components and bespoke customer personalisation.
