Nearly a year after the introduction of the 2nd gen 1 Series 5-door hatchback, BMW has now revealed a second body variant to the range plus a new M135i.

BMW has released the first official details and images of the three door hatchback version of their new generation 1 Series that is crowned with the new M135i. The three-door hatch comes as a 2nd model to the lineup of the next generation 1 series, following the 5-door version that was released nearly a year ago.

The new model has outgrown its predecessor, with its length increased by 85mm, the width up by 17mm and the wheelbase extended by 30mm. It helps enhance the driving dynamics of the model while offering a little extra space for the interior where legroom has increased by 21mm and luggage capacity has increased by 30 litres to 360 litres.

The new 1 Series range will also be available with an extended range of power options that include petrol, diesel and TwinPower Turbo technology. The 114i is a new entry level version that uses a 1.6-litre TwinPower Turbo unit that generates 100hp and 180Nm of torque.

The 116i and 125i versions also form the petrol line-up and generate 136hp and 218bhp respectively. The diesel options will include of the 116d that produces 116hp, the 118d that produces 143hp and the 125d that produces 218hp. The 116d version also comes in an EfficientDynamics Edition that offers CO2 emissions of just 99g/km.

In November, BMW will enhance the range with the 120d powered by a 181hp diesel and the 118i featuring a 168hp gasoline engine. BMW said it will also offer xDrive four-wheel drive technology in the future starting with the 120d xDrive and the M135i xDrive.
