  • BMW posts BEV growth despite challenging market conditions

Though BMW Group experienced an increase in fully-electric models, its overall sales across all brands fell by 4.5% from the previous year.

Despite a globally challenging market, the BMW Group has announced an increase of 19.1% in its sales of fully-electric vehicles in the first nine months of 2024, with a total of 294,054 Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) delivered to customers.

In the same period, BMW brand sales, meanwhile, of fully-electric models rose by 22.6% to 266,151.

Despite notable positive sales development with certain BMW models, the brand experienced a slight decline in sales for the first nine months

The group saw sales growth thanks to rising demand in Europe, with countries including the U.K., Italy, and France seeing strong demand for its vehicles. The BMW brand delivered a total of 577,803 vehicles in Europe during the first three quarters of 2024, an increase of 7.6%. The brand's fully-electric models also did very well in the same region, with 121,844 vehicles delivered, an increase of 35.8%.

Despite this increase in sales, the group delivered a total of 1,754,158 vehicles across its brands, a decline of 4.5% from the previous year. This can be attributed to delivery stops due to the supplied Integrated Braking System (IBS), which heavily impacted the third quarter, and the difficult market environment in China.

Demand for BMW's BEVs continues to hold strong, with a wide range of up-to-date electric offerings available to customers. For example, the BMW i4 M50 was recently refreshed, and now sports a front end that is more closely aligned to the one on the updated M4

The BMW brand also experienced a decline of 2.3% for overall deliveries globally, with a total of 1,583,485 vehicles sold in the first nine months.

During the same time period, its MINI brand, which is updating its entire portfolio this year, experienced an overall decline of 20.9%, with 166,703 models sold. However, in the third quarter, fully-electric MINI models were especially in demand, experiencing an increase in sales by 54.3% with 16,536 models delivered.

As for its Rolls-Royce brand, it presented a total of 3,970 motor cars to new owners in the first nine months of this year, amounting to a decline of 12.8%.
