A Mercedes-Benz car caught fire on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) near Jurong Pier Road at around noon yesterday, causing a massive jam.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) took around 10 minutes to extinguish the fire. An SCDF spokesperson said the car was totally burned, but no one was hurt in the incident. Investigations are ongoing.

Statistics from SCDF show that vehicle fires have went up by 20 percent - from 95 cases in the first half of last year to 114 cases in the same period this year.
