Praise the Sun - Cadillac has revealed a new Sollei design concept.
Described as the ultimate design expression of a coach-built luxury electric convertible, the Cadillac Sollei's name is a portmanteau of 'Sol' (for sun) and 'Lei' (for leisure), said to represent the firm’s inspiration behind the car - the open-air, leisurely lifestyle.
There's plenty that is unmistakably Cadillac here. Take, for example, the low and elongated body, wide stance, as well as that long coupe door which facilitates easy access into the car's rear seats.
Further drawing emphasis to this length, is a stretched mid-body line that connects the car's head lights to its taillights, as well as the fact that its door handles have been replaced by discreet buttons to minimise interruptions to the car's clean profile.
The colour of the car you see in the photos, is Manila Cream, a colour originally used on the firm's cars from 1957 to 1958. The example used here, has been meticulously curated and hand-painted by Cadillac craftsmen.
In the cabin, the Cadillac Sollei design concept gets a 55-inch pillar-to-pillar screen. Also new for Cadillac is the use of Mycelium, a bio-based material derived from the renewable root structure of mushrooms. This material has been used to make the car's charging mats on the console and the door map pockets.
The car's seats, upholstered in a fine Nappa leather, have also been imbued with a pink iridescent pigment that creates a subtle colour-changing sunrise effect, while the hue is also repeated on the car's beverage chiller door and glass tray in the rear compartment. The metal trim here, meanwhile, gets an Aurora tint that allows it to deliver a colour shifting effect that is said to reflect the phenomenon of the sun's solar winds reacting with the earth's atmosphere.
The Cadillac Sollei design concept was officially unveiled at Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, a newly restored, state-of-the-art facility at General Motor's Global Technical Centre campus in Michigan, U.S.A. This location is dedicated to providing a bespoke design experience for Cadillac Celestiq clients.
