    In the first Certificate of Entitlement bidding round for May, premiums for Cat E slipped while premiums for Cat A and Cat B climbed.

    In the first round of bidding for May, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) premiums rose for Cat A and Cat B, while premiums for Cat C and E slipped.

    The various roadshows hosted by the authoised dealers through the past weekends may have increased public interest in new car purchases, keeping premiums steady despite the increased COE supply for this quarter.

    Cat A COE - bouncing back from last session's drop

    Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, continued to climb this session after falling in the last session. Premiums for the category climbed $2,202 (3.2%), to end at $70,901 this session.

    Premiums for the category now stand at 29.9% above the 12-month trailing average, and are now at the 91st percentile of the premiums from the last 12 months. The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 31%, lower than the 12-month average of 44% for the category.

    Cat B COE - climbing again following a supply dip

    Premiums for Cat B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, also climbed this session, coming back from the slip of the last bidding session by rising by $2,088 (2.3%) this session to reach $92,090.

    This climb in premiums for the category has brought the current price to 23.2% above the 12-month trailing average. Premiums for the category now rest at the 82nd percentile of the 12-month average.

    The total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceed the quota available by 33%. The 12-month average figure for this category is currently 41%.

    Cat C COE - Continuing from last session's dive

    Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, slipped this session, dropping by $1,112 (2.1%), to close at $50,890.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 77%, lower than the 12-month average for this category of 98%.

    Cat E COE - Moving further away from that $100,000 mark
    Cat E, the open category, also saw a slip this session, dropping by $4,689 (4.9%) this session, bringing the premium to $91,112.

    This fall means current premiums for the category are now at 17.4% above the 12-month trailing average, and at the 78th percentile of prices over the last 12 months.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 45%. The 12-month average for this figure for the category is 64%.

    Prevailing Quota Premium

    The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
