    In the second Certificate of Entitlement bidding round for February 2022, COE premiums rose across the board.

    In the second round of bidding for February, Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices rose across all categories.

    The newly anounced rise in Additional Registration Fees could have stirred up increased car buying interest this session, and could also explain the rise in bids received across all COE categories this round.

    Cat A COE - A $2,239 hike in premiums

    Premiums for Cat A, for cars up to 1,600cc in engine capacity and with an output of no more than 130bhp, rose by $2,239 (3.7%) to end at $63,000 this session.

    This rise sees the current premium standing at 27.2% above the 12-month trailing average. The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 63%, far higher than the 12-month average of 41% for the category.

    Cat B COE - A $7,488 leap this session

    Premiums for Car B, for larger cars with more than 130bhp or engine displacements larger than 1,600cc, meanwhile, saw the greatest leap this session, jumping by $7,488 (8.7%) to reach a new high of $93,590. Premiums for the category have not been this high since January of 2013.

    This latest jump in premiums for the category brings the current price to 43% above the 12-month trailing average.

    This session saw increased bidding activity for the category, with the total number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeding the quota available by 68%, also far higher than the 12-month average for this category of 40%.

    Cat C COE - Also seeing sizable gains

    Premiums for Cat C, for goods vehicles and buses, rose by $2,500 this session (5.7%), closing at $46,501.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 155%, higher than the 12-month average for this category of 85%.

    Cat E COE - Also breaking the $90,000 mark

    Cat E, the open category, rose by $6,102 (7.0%) this session, bringing the premium to $93,102.

    This rise sees premiums for the category now reaching 40% above the 12-month trailing average.

    The number of unsuccessful bids this round exceeded the available quota by 67%. The 12-month average for this figure for the category is 65%.

    Prevailing Quota Premium

    The Prevailing Quota Premium is the amount to be paid for COE renewal and is computed from the moving average of the previous three-months of COE prices. Those looking to renew the COE on their cars will thus have to pay the following prices for the respective months.
