  • Chrysler recalls 40,000 vehicles over ignition switch problem

    17 May 2010

Chrysler is recalling over 40,000 vehicles in the US due to a glitch with the ignition switch, which it says might cause unintended vehicle movement

The recall move affects 40,131 cars sold in the USA, and includes models such as the 2010 model year Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, Jeep Commander, Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Dodge Ram pickup truck.

The problem is a glitch with the ignition switch, which Chrysler says in some of the vehicles, may allow the driver to remove the ignition key before the car's transmission has been put in the Park position.

"This could result in the potential for unintended vehicle movement and could increase the risk of a crash," Chrysler said in a statement to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The recall exercise will begin in July 2010, with Chrysler's dealers inspecting the affected vehicles and if necessary, replacing the wireless ignition module free of charge.
