When you try to associate Kia, the South Korean carmaker, with Batman - a popular US DC comics franchise and a classic superhero - the link is weak at best, except for the fact that Korean comic artist Jim Lee was involved in the Batman series of comics.
Nevertheless, Kia has risen like the Dark Knight to an occasion that truly merits support. Kia is donning the Batman cape in bid to support DC Entertainment's 'We Can Be Heroes' Campaign at the Time Warner Centre in New York this week, a fund raising campaign to battle hunger in Africa.
The Batmobile-esque Optima is the first of a series of eight customised Kia cars that will be released over the next 10 months, with each model representing a character from DC's Justice League.
This special Kia Optima is wearing a matte and piano-black exterior paint scheme and features a lowered coilover suspension. Other changes include a more aggressive body kit and large Ksport performance brakes. The car rides on a new set of bespoke 20-inch black alloys and features a performance exhaust system. Also of worthy mention is the custom front grille that is shaped like a batwing and the bat signal that is etched into the HID headlights. The cabin's seating surfaces have been wrapped around in black leather and suede with yellow accent stitching, while in the trunk there is a bat suit and a cowl, complete with utility throwing stars located in the centre console.
