  • F1 drivers may boycott if tyre problems not solved

The chain of tyre blow-outs at the British Grand Prix has sparked an outcry of safety concerns, with drivers suggesting a boycott if problems not solved.

The series of tyre blow-outs which took place at the recent British Grand Prix sparked safety concerns for the drivers, with a possible 'walk out' at the next race in Germany this weekend if problems are left unsolved.

Pirelli, the tyre supplier for Formula One, has faced serious criticism from teams since the start of season. They have began investigation on the four tyre failures at Silverstone.

Felipe Massa, Ferrari's F1 team driver, was one of the four drivers who encountered the puncture. Speaking on the incident, he stressed that drivers are risking lives in such instances, and he does not rule out the possibility of a boycott if the problem does not get resolved.

Formula One Chief Bernie Ecclestone has assured that Pirelli will be allowed to run an extensive 'unrestricted' test in their investigation, although no dates have been set yet.

The question raised by experts is whether the tyre failure was caused by track debris at Silverstone - a problem arising from the track itself - or related to the design and construction of the tyres.
