The move towards self-driving cars on our streets and highways is slowly but surely becoming more concrete, but Jeep is taking things a few step further with its latest piece of tech: Autonomous off-roading.
And it's not just in theory (or in the lab) that the brand has laid out this latest advancement too.
Two specially fitted Grand Cherokee 4xes were taken out in Moab, Utah to test the tech out To test this in the real world, two Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe models were installed with the AI and autonomous off-road driving technology, then taken out over the rocky landscapes of Moab, Utah. The team behind the effort was led by none other than Head of AI & Autonomous Driving at Stellantis, Neda Cvijetic.
To those who still cannot visualise self-driving cars and off-roaders in the same realm of existence, Jeep is confident that this development will the enhance the experience both for "seasoned off-roaders" as well as "customers who are new to driving the trail". The company also says the tech will help owners in "challenging everyday conditions".
Jeep is set to release a video soon that will go into more detail about the workings of the tech The latest move comes as Jeep has intensified its push for more electric models as part of a wider effort by parent Stellantis Group.
Speaking on the news, Jeep brand CEO, Christian Meunier, stated, "In the same way that our 4xe electrification takes Jeep brand's off-road capability to new heights, these advanced off-road driving systems will help more customers in more countries around world join and enjoy the adventure".
In the meantime, Jeep is promising that a full video showcasing the technology in further detail will be released later this month.
