KG Mobility and BYD to co-develop hybrid technology

KG Mobility - formerly known as Ssangyong - has announced that it is collaborating with BYD to advance electrification of its products.

As part of the agreement, KG Mobility will now utilise battery packs from a new factory in Korea for its Torres EVX electric SUV as well as a yet-to-be-unveiled battery-electric pickup truck that is scheduled for mass production in the second half of 2024. KG Mobility states that it will also use these battery packs in other applicable vehicle models.

The two firms are said to have already begun the joint development of a next-generation hybrid system, which is planned to feature in a Torres-based hybrid model come 2025. The two firms are also working to develop new plug-in hybrid models via a newly restructured research institute.
