Lexus has revealed a new LF-ZC (Lexus Future Zero-emission Catalyst) concept at the Japan Mobility Show.
The concept is said to offer a glimpse into the brand's electric future, and a production version of this all-electric sedan concept is also set for release come 2026.
The concept has been designed under the theme of 'Provocative Simplicity', intended to give the car a striking yet sleek and refined design. At the front, the concept retains Lexus' signature Spindle Body design element. This sits ahead of a low-slung hood, which work alongside prominent rear wheel flares to give the LF-ZC a planted look that hints at an exhilarating drive experience.
This exterior is said to give the car a coefficient of drag value of approximately 0.2.
Lexus states that the interior of the LF-ZC is a representation of its latest sustainability efforts, with the focus here placed on circular resource use. The aforementioned low hood also gives an unprecedented, expansive field of vision out onto the road, allowing drivers to fully engage with the road. A fully flat floor, in addition to a panoramic roof, further creates a sense of spaciousness in the cabin.
Aiding the immersive drive experience is a digitalised Intelligent Cockpit that offers situation-based functionality. You also note that a sizeable passenger screen is also offered in this cockpit. The system is said to run on a new 'Arene OS' platform, which can adjust the vehicle's performance characteristics to the driver's preferences.
Furthermore, the concept also offers a next-generation voice recognition system that makes use of artificial intelligence so users will be able to get swift responses to voice commands and perceptive suggestions. The system is said to be like an attentive and accommodating butler, and will be able to offer route recommendations that align with the driver's preferences by considering their daily activity patterns and mood.
Customers will also be able to utilise the interior of the LF-ZC to compete in e-sports using the car's steer-by-wire technology.
No drivetrain details have been revealed for the Lexus LF-ZC as yet. However, Lexus does state that the car will utilise prismatic high-performance batteries that will give it twice the range of conventional battery-electric vehicles.
The production variant is set to be based on a new modular platform which is formed via a new gigacasting process which Lexus states will not only deliver greater vehicle rigidity, but will also allow easier integration of new parts and enable a rapid integration of battery advancement for more agile vehicle development.
