The LTA has rolled out a host of updates for ERP 2.0.

It states it has rolled out these updates in response to feedback that it has gathered from a host of early adopters. More than 18,000 vehicles are said to already sport the new OBU.

Vehicle owners will be able to choose if they want to install the touchscreen display, which now features a new button for those who need to deactivate their CEPAS card to make use of complimentary parking coupons

Kicking things off is the fact that there is now no need to physically remove the CEPAS card from the processing unit if you've got a complimentary parking ticket - the touchscreen display of the OBU now comes with a button to deactivate the card. LTA states that the correct amount will still be deducted from the CEPAS card should a driver drive under an ERP gantry even if he/she forgets to reactivate the card after leaving the carpark.

For those who will need to utilise carparks which are not equipped with the Electronic Parking System, NETS will now offer a complimentary NETS Motoring Card to all motorists who install the OBU so these motorists will be able to tap their new cards to facilitate entry and exit at these carparks without having to remove their CEPAS card from the processing unit.

The LTA states that it will deploy service ambassadors to vehicle showrooms and workshops to guide motorists on their options, including how to sign up for auto top-up of their CEPAS cards if they want to do so.

Vehicle owners will also now be given choices on where to install the processing unit, and whether to install the touchscreen display. The LTA recommends the processing unit be installed either the driver's or the front passenger's footwell. However, for car models where this is not feasible, owners will also be able to opt for other locations within the vehicle, subject to safety considerations and technical feasibility.

The LTA states that it has asked all motor dealers and importers to consult buyers of new vehicles on the choice of position of the processing unit, and whether they want to install the touchscreen display. The touchscreen display can also be folded down if motorists prefer, and owners who choose not to install the touchscreen display will still receive the display unit so that they have the option to install the it if they change their minds subsequently.

The LTA is finally working to expand the safety notifications offered by the new OBU to include more speed camera zones as well as red-light cameras and mobile cameras, to remind motorists to keep within the speed limits at these locations. These updates will be rolled out over-the-air, so motorists will not need to bring their vehicles to any workshops to receive these.
