  • LTA says more electric buses to be deployed from end-2026

    18 Dec 2025

The new electric buses will offer longer operating ranges, a passenger information display system, and safety systems to assist bus captains, among others.

LTA has awarded six contracts for 660 new electric buses, comprising 360 single-deck and 300 double-deck buses. The awarded tenderers are ST Engineering Mobility Services (partnered with CRRC), BYD, Yutong, and Cycle & Carriage Automotive (partnered with Zhongtong Bus).

This marks LTA's first large-scale purchase of electric double-deck buses. From end-2026, the new electric buses will be progressively deployed for passenger service to replace diesel buses that are reaching the end of their statutory lifespan.

The new electric buses will have improved battery technology and capacity that offers longer operating ranges, passenger information display systems that provide real-time audio and visual updates, and safety features such as onboard CCTV and driver anti-fatigue monitoring system to assist bus captains.

In addition, the new electric double-deckers will have three doors and two staircases, enabling commuters on the upper deck to disembark via the rear staircase to make boarding and alighting smoother and quicker.

This falls in line with LTA's commitment to having a 100% cleaner energy bus fleet by 2040. By 2030, the LTA expects electric buses to make up half of Singapore's public bus fleet, which will invariably mean more tenders for electric buses in the coming years.
