Not content to simply bump the capabilities of the 720S with the new 750S, McLaren has now revealed the new GTS - an upgraded version of its GT.
Set to replace the GT in the firm's lineup, the GTS is designed for those that want all the useability and comfort of the GT, but perhaps want just a touch more performance.
Accordingly, the car now gets a total of 626bhp from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 - a 14bhp increase over the McLaren GT - thanks to revised ignition timing and more aggressive combustion phasing. Combined with a seven-speed sequential shift gearbox, this raised output will see the McLaren GTS sprinting to 100km/h from a standstill in 3.2 seconds. Top speed of the vehicle, meanwhile, stands at 326km/h.
Keeping all this power in check, are 390mm brake discs at the front and 380mm discs at the rear, all of which are carbon ceramic items. Lightweight six-piston aluminium callipers feature at the front axle, while four-piston callipers are utilised at the rear.
And for control on the road, the McLaren GTS continues to call on its carbon fibre MonoCell II-T monocoque chassis, although here, the composite roof is made from recycled carbon fibre. Lower down, the McLaren GTS also gets an aluminium double-wishbone suspension alongside continuously variable, twin-valve hydraulic dampers from McLaren Automotive’s Official Intelligent Suspension Supplier, Monroe.
In the cabin, the McLaren GTS comes equipped with seats and a steering wheel both trimmed in Nappa leather. However, customers may also opt to have their car in either the 'Performance' or 'TechLux' interior trim. The former finishes the seats in Softgrain Aniline leather and Alcantara in Jet Black or Barolo, while the latter also makes use of Softgrain Aniline Leather in the cabin, with the seats additionally getting a new double piped pattern.
The car also gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, alongside a 7.0-inch portrait-oriented central touchscreen infotainment system. A 12-speaker Bowers and Wilkins premium audio system that utilises carbon fibre sub-bass woofers and Kevlar mid-range drive units is also available for the McLaren GTS as an option.
At the back, the boot of the GTS offers a total of 420 litres of space, all accessed via a front-hinged, full-length glass tailgate that is electrically operated and incorporates a soft close function. The luggage space is complemented by a 150-litre storage within the nose of the car.
Step out of the car and you'll note that the GTS distinguishes itself from the GT with the use of an updated lower front bumper section, complete with wider and more pronounced intakes - all to better feed cool air into the vehicle.
At the rear, the fenders also now get taller air scoops, designed to feed more air into that 4.0-litre engine. The GTS also gets a gloss black finish applied to its exhaust finisher, mirror caps and window surrounds as standard, while its badging can be tinted with a black finish with the Stealth Black Pack option.
Customers will additionally be able to have their car with an Underbody Carbon Pack, which will swap the front splitter, side skirts and rear bumper and diffuser for carbon fibre items. The front air intake blades, rear fender air intakes and mirror caps can also be finished in carbon fibre.
