Mercedes-Benz's '140 Years, 140 Places', the carmaker's global drive to mark its 140th anniversary, has arrived in Singapore.
The journey is being undertaken by a convoy of three new S-Class limousines, with the goal of bringing the celebration and the brand's story to 140 places across six continents. Over 50,000km is expected to be covered.
The convoy set off following the S-Class' launch on 29 January - the same date in 1886 that Carl Benz filed a patent for the world's first automobile. Carl Benz is one of Mercedes-Benz's co-founders, making the brand the oldest carmaker in the world.
During yesterday's event at IMBA Theatre in Gardens by the Bay, guests were able to explore the new S-Class before its official launch in Singapore later this year. They were also treated to a showcase and photo opportunity with a replica of the Patent Motorwagen, the first car.
Following this, the Mercedes-Benz announced that Singapore would be one of the 14 cities (and the only one in Southeast Asia) that would host a Mercedes-Benz Studio. Each Studio is a destination for product launches and experiences, community and cultural events.
Each Studio also espouses the brand's 'Welcome Home' philosophy that's designed to evoke feelings of ease, comfort, and belonging to customers. Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore will open later this year in the SG50 Lattice in Gardens by the Bay.
Darren Ng, Head of Customer Excitement at Mercedes-Benz Singapore, said, "We are incredibly proud that Singapore has been selected to be home to a Mercedes-Benz Studio, joining only a small number of cities around the world chosen for this next chapter of the brand.
"Designed as a space that feels open, welcoming and deeply connected to the rhythm of the city, Mercedes-Benz Studio Singapore will create new opportunities for customers and the community to experience the brand in new and unexpected ways. We can't wait to share more ahead of the Studio's opening later this year."
Marcel Perez, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Singapore, added, "Singapore has been part of the Mercedes-Benz story for more than three decades, and we're proud to bring the '140 Places' convoy here. As a city synonymous with innovation and future-forward design, Singapore is the perfect stage to celebrate our spirit of progress and the pursuit of the extraordinary."
"We look forward to welcoming customers and the community to experience the future of luxury and automotive excellence, and to feel truly at home with Mercedes-Benz."
