Mercedes-Benz's revered G-Class off-roader has been updated with a new exterior and more equipment than before.

Mercedes-Benz has revealed an updated G-Class, ahead of the expected reveal of a new all-electric variant for the model.

On the exterior, this updated G-Class now gets four horizontal louvres in its grille instead of three (just like on the updated Mercedes-Benz GLB which we reviewed here), while the front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned. Also new is the off-roader's A-pillar and the addition of a spoiler lip on the roof of the car - both additions designed to raise the aerodynamic performance of the car.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class now gets the firm's latest MBUX system comprising of two 12.3-inch displays

In the cabin, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class has been updated with a new MBUX infotainment system that comprises of two 12.3-inch displays. The car also now features Mercedes-Benz's Keyless-Go system, temperature-controlled cupholders, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system, all as standard in the U.K.

Also new for the Mercedes-Benz G-Class is the addition of safety features including Active Steering Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist and route-based speed adaptation.

Under the bonnet, the G-Class lineup now starts with the G450d, which gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder diesel unit that develops a total of 362bhp and 750Nm of peak torque. Paired to a nine-speed gearbox, this unit will see the G-Class sprinting to 100km/h from a standstill in 5.8 seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG G63 comes equipped with a 576bhp 4.0-litre V8 and will ride on 22-inch AMG alloy wheels

Petrol-burning options, meanwhile, start with the G500, which gets a 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine that develops 443bhp and 560Nm of torque. Also paired with a nine-speed gearbox, this variant will sprint to 100km/h from a standstill in 5.4 seconds. Mercedes-Benz states that these models will also offer a total ground clearance between the axles of at least 241mm, a maximum fording depth of 70cm, and will be able to drive on sideward slopes of up to 35 degrees.

And for those that need to conquer the dunes at double speed, the G63 continues to be offered. This variant utilises a 4.0-litre V8 that offers a total of 576bhp and an impressive 850Nm of torque, allowing you to sprint along in your off-roader to 100km/h from a standstill in just 4.3 seconds. This G63 will also come with Mercedes-AMG's Active Ride Control active hydraulic roll stabilisation and adaptive adjustable damping system.

At the front, this G63 also comes with a new AMG-specific bumper complete with stainless steel inserts and adaptive Multibeam LED head lights, while featuring the AMG crest on its bonnet alongside a silver chrome AMG fuel filler cap. The model also gets red painted brake callipers which grip perforated brake discs and sit behind 22-inch AMG alloy wheels.

All variants of the G-Class also now come equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology.
