The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class now comes with a bolder exterior design alongside an optional three-screen MBUX in its cabin.

Mercedes-Benz unveils the new E-Class sedan.

The long rival of the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series has a wheelbase that has grown 22mm for this generation compared to its predecessor. This combines with the car's traditional 'cab-backward' three-box design for a sleek and elegant visual character.

The grille of the Mercedes-Benz E-class can now be had with an illuminated surround
Up front, the new E-Class gets new and more shapely head lights. These flank a redesigned grille that visually links it to its larger S-Class sibling. As with previous iterations of the E-Class, this grille's design will change depending on the equipment line chosen.

This grille is additionally now available for the first time with an illuminated surround which will light up as part of the welcome and leaving animation, and in combination with the daytime running lights when driving.

At the rear, the taillights of this new E-Class now meet in the middle to emphasise the width of the car. The shape of the lights here will once again be familiar to those accustomed to looking at an S-Class, although the lights in the E-Class here does feature a special light signature that utilises the star motif.

Step into the cabin and Mercedes' third generation MBUX system is likely to capture your attention. Called the MBUX Superscreen in this E-Class, it will be available with an optional passenger display, and now gets icons which are colour-coded so they will be familiar to smartphone users.

As revealed in February 2023, this new MBUX system will also now support the installation of third-party apps.

The system also now can remember routines, so for example, users can set the car up to turn on the climate control to a given temperature, the cabin ambient lighting to a given colour, and turn on the seat heating all by activating a single routine. Mercedes states that the car will be able to fully automate recurring routine tasks if desired in the future.

    The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is being launched with a 201bhp 2.0-litre mild-hybrid drivetrain.

This engine generates a total of 320Nm of torque, while its electric integrated starter-generator now gets a peak output of 23bhp. This engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox, and allows the car to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 7.5 seconds.

The Mercedes will also be offered as an E300e plug-in hybrid that offers a total system output of 308bhp as well as 550Nm of torque. An E400e plug-in hybrid is also available with 375bhp and 650Nm of torque. Both these variants will come with a 25.4kWh battery.

The car will also be available with an optional rear-axle steering that reduces the turning circle by up to 90cm in models with 4Matic, while rear-wheel drive variants will get their steering radius reduced from 11.6m to 10.8m.
