  • Porsche reveals new Vision 357 Speedster

The open-top Speedster of the Vision 357 comes with a tonneau cover on the passenger side, and a carbon fibre shell for the driver to sit in.

Porsche has marked the 30th anniversary of the Goodwood Festival of Speed with the reveal of a new Porsche Vision 357 Speedster.

The sister model to the Porsche Vision 357 revealed earlier this year, the new concept car is also based on the platform of the 718 GT4 e-Performance. However, it utilises the same electric motors and battery technology as those found in the Mission R.

The vertical grille pattern at the rear of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster is a nod to the Porsche 356

Up top, the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster differs from the closed Vision 357, utilising a squat, shortened windscreen typical of a speedster to place more visual emphasis on its body.

This body is finished in Marble Grey and Grivelo Grey Metallic, a touch inspired by historic motorsport forerunners. The front fenders, however, used to protect against flying rocks in race scenarios and the front wings, come in a darker Metallic colour.

The passenger side of the car also gets a tonneau cover replicating those that used to feature on open-top sports cars. The driver’s side, meanwhile, is a carbon fibre seat shell, with the seat featuring Racetex-covered pads and the driver held in place by a six-point seat belt with a Miami Blue belt strap.

The carbon fibre tub of the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster gets a transparent instrument cluster and Miami Blue controls

Ahead of the driver rests an instrument cluster that is made of a transparent surface, and the driver's headrest has been designed so it appears suspended in the air, supported by the carbon roll-over element behind it.

The use of a four-point light signet on the front features a round design evocative of the Porsche 356, while the rear lights sit behind a pattered array of points milled onto the body itself. These sit at either end of the rear which also features a vertical grille pattern, making another nod to the Porsche 356.

Following its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Porsche Vision 357 Speedster will be on display at this year's Rennsport Reunion in the U.S.A at the end of September.
