Reverse camera – a luxury gadget of the past has evolved to become more of a commodity in cars nowadays. Manufacturers, especially those from the premium segment, are adding this driver-friendly-aid as part of their offering package. Part of this inclusion draws from the fact that car buyers no longer perceive it as a premium add-on for the tech-savvy, but rather as a safety feature.
According to reports, at least three people have been killed by reversing vehicles here on our local shores. One of those hitting the headlines involves the knock-down of an Australian boy by his mother in a reversing multi-purpose vehicle, which ended up running the boy over. In the United States, safety regulators are working on implementing a rule that will require carmakers to fit reversing cameras on all passenger vehicles by 2014.
With the increasingly competitive local motoring market, it is without doubt that car dealers will be looking for more ways to enhance their sales package to attract the discerning buyers. We certainly hope to see this safety feature being incorporated in time to come.
