The Stellantis Group is now testing inductive charging technology at the 'Arena Del Futuro' (Arena of the Future).

Originally a circuit built by A35 Brebemi, the direct motorway link between Brescia and Milan has become a site for the testing of technology that will charge electric vehicles as the drive through the road.

The technology is being developed with other international partners, public institutions and universities, and is now entering its third phase, which is focused on piloting the technology in use. To do so, the first vehicles (The Fiat 500 and the Iveco E-Way bus) have been fitted out to test the system and have already clocked up many kilometres, with more than encouraging results.

The aim of this testing is to demonstrate how the Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer system can charge vehicles 'wirelessly'. The technology can be adapted for all vehicles equipped with a special 'receiver', which transfers the energy incoming from the road infrastructure to the battery. The road surface will be optimised to make it more durable without altering the efficiency and effectiveness of the inductive charge.
