Tesla has released pictures of a production version of its Model S Alpha luxury sedan, which is expected to go on sale by 2012

The production version of the Tesla Model S Alpha that was revealed is based on the prototype model that was first showcased in 2009, with minor cosmetic changes such as a new front bumper and larger front air intakes.

The Tesla Model S Alpha is expected to enter production next year, with the first batch of cars to roll off the production line in the second half of 2012. Sales and deliveries are expected to start in the U.S. by mid-2012, and Europe is expected to get the car slightly later in 2012.

Tesla will offer three versions of the Model S Alpha, with different ranges. The top-of-the-line Model S 300M version will have the largest battery pack, which will provide a range of 483km. The other two variants are the 230M, which has a range of 307km, and the 160M, which can travel up to 258km on a single charge.
