  • The largest Smart car ever, the #5 has been launched

    17 Sep 2025

Built upon a new 800-volt platform, the Smart #5 is the latest, most versatile vehicle from the brand, and it has just been launched in Singapore.

Smart has been known as the microcar maker, with its peculiar and tiny fortwo and forfour. However, in more recent times, with the introduction of the Smart #1 and #3, the brand has clearly upsized its offerings.

Today, the brand has just launched its latest, and also largest model here - the Smart #5. The charming outdoors-inspired NOMADS restaurant in Seletar was an apt choice for the unveiling of the brand's first mid-size SUV with an adventurous character.

Unlike the previous Smart models, the shapes of the #5 front and rear lights are drastically different - they now feature the brand's iconic oblong signatures

Designed by the Mercedes-Benz global design team, the Smart #5 embodies the brand's design language "Love, Pure, Unexpected". Right from the outset, you'll quickly identify the car as a Smart due to its general rounded-cube silhouette, along with the oblong design elements peppered throughout, starting with the head lights.

The #5's head and taillights are a departure from the Smart #1's and #3's Mercedes EQ-esque light signature, setting it apart from everything else on the brand's current lineup. The general boxy silhouette evokes similar emotions as the popular Mercedes-Benz GLB, highlighting the association of both brands. Despite being an SUV, the Smart #5 appears to sit rather low to the ground, lending it a sporty look - perhaps hinting at the city car DNA of the brand.

The higher-end Premium trim can be identified by its unique rims with Rolls-Royce-esque floating centre caps that stay upright

At launch, the Smart #5 is available in two trims in Singapore - the #5 Pro with a 76kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, and the #5 Premium with a 100kWh Lithium Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NCM) Battery.

Opt for the higher-end Premium trim and you'll also get a unique rim design that features floating centre caps a la Rolls Royce.

Thanks to its long wheelbase and boxy styling, the cabin of the #5 is specious and welcoming

With its length of 4,695mm and a wheelbase of 2,900mm, the #5 is a spacious car that offers plenty of space within. Comfort is the highlight of the #5, the comfortable seats offer 121-degree of recline, and are upholstered in leather.

All seats can also be adjusted to transform the cabin into a comfortable resting and sleeping area, in-line with the adventurous character of the car; it is perfect for camping trips and long journeys.

The powerful AMD V2000 chip allows the vibrant Smart OS user interface to be rendered smoothly

Powered by the advanced AMD V2000 high-computing-power chip, the brand's Smart OS user interface is able to be rendered smoothly and responsively. This creates an enjoyable experience when you operate the infotainment system through the twin 13-inch displays (Premium trim) that allows smartphone connectivity along with an array of features.

The driver's instrument cluster consists of a 10.3-inch LCD display, and an Augmented Head-up Display

Meanwhile, the driver gets a 10.3-inch Ultra HD LCD instrument cluster and a 25.6-inch Augmented Reality Head-up Display for all vital information during a drive.

The smart #5 Premium is equipped with the Sennheiser Signature Sound System with 20 high-performance speakers

Equipped with the Sennheiser Signature Sound System that features 20 high-performance speakers, users can fine-tune the audio to their preferences and enjoy quality tunes from the 1,190-watt system with full 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos support.

The #5 Premium is equipped with a 100kWh battery, offering up to 590km of range
The #5 Pro is equipped with a smaller 76kWh battery, with a range of up to 465km

Equipped with a 100kWh battery, the Smart #5 Premium offers an incredible range of up to 590km. Meanwhile, the Smart #5 Pro is equipped with a 76kWh battery that provides a range of up to 465km. The 800-volt platform that underpins the #5 supports a super-charging function of up to 400kW, allowing up to 70% of the capacity to be charged in just 15 minutes with the appropriate chargers.

Despite being down on power, the #5 Pro is only marginally slower to complete the century spring, taking 6.9 seconds to do so (0.4 seconds slower than the Premium)

Performance wise, both trim levels are comparable, with an output of 250kW (335bhp) and 267kW (358bhp) to the rear wheels for the Pro and Premium trims respectively. Both trim levels share a peak torque of 373Nm. The Smart #5 Premium completes the century sprint in 6.5 seconds, while the slight power difference results in the #5 Pro lacking behind by 0.4 seconds.

The Smart #5 is equipped with advanced safety features such as the V-shaped curtain airbags, cushion airbags and seat-integrated seat belts. It also has a steel-aluminium hybrid body that has been built with high-strength steel and aluminuim alloy for increased rigidity and protection.

The passive safety equipment, along with comprehensive ADAS hardware and software, has allowed the #5 to secure a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Both Smart #5 models are currently available for booking, and interested customers can enjoy up to $20,000 in exclusive early-bird promotions when they book early with Cycle & Carriage.
