MG has announced that it will soon expand its lineup of fully-electric models in the U.K. with its largest electric SUV yet: The MGS6 EV.
Built atop of the Modular Scalable Platform (MSP) for electric vehicles, the MGS6 EV shares its underpinnings with the popular MGS5 EV, but sits above it in terms of positioning and size.
While MG U.K. hasn’t given any official word on the car’s dimensions, international sites indicate that the MGS6 EV could stretch out at more than 4.7 metres in length, with a wheelbase of more than 2,830mm. That should see it taking the fight to the mid-sized likes of the BYD Sealion 7 and Tesla Model Y - though it notably doesn’t adopt their coupe-SUV styling.
Marking the MGS6 EV out as a member of the MG family shouldn’t be too difficult for those already familiar with the MGS5, especially from the front.
It sports an angular nose, sharp and narrow daytime running lights and even an Active Grille Shutter system to help with aerodynamic efficiency at speed. The rear is a slightly different affair, though, thanks to a thicker full-length light bar than the one on its smaller sibling, ending in vertical light pieces on both ends, as well as a chunky diffuser-esque bumper reminiscent of the MG 4 EV’s.
19-inch wheels are standard on the SE Long Range variant in the U.K., though step up too the Trophy Long Range and Trophy Dual Motor variants, and these are upsized to fancier 20-inch items.
Speaking of variants, the MGS6 EV is offered solely with a 77kWh battery pack in the U.K, although both single-motor and dual-motor powertrains are available.
The former sees 180kW and 350Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels for a 7.3 second century sprint timing. MG is claiming a combined WLTP-rated range of 529km with this single-motor variant.
The addition of another motor on the all-wheel drive variant then ups the power to 266kW and 540Nm of torque, resulting in a not-shabby century sprint timing of 5.1 seconds with power sent to all four wheels. Even here, range is still impressive: A WLTP-rated 484km.
Sheer size aside, MG also seems to have more premium ambitions for the MGS6’s cabin.
Again, the retention of physical dials and buttons for the main functions of heating, ventilation and volume control should call to mind the MGS5’s interior, but MG specifically notes the widespread use of soft-touch materials in the cabin to emphasise the car’s upmarket positioning. The higher-end Trophy trims in the U.K. also come with a whole host of features including a 50W ventilated wireless phone charger, and a panoramic sunroof.
As standard, however, the MGS6 already promises plenty. Offered as standard, for instance, are a 10.25-inch driver’s display and a ‘floating’ 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen. The car’s spacious cabin also comes with over 30 storage and “practicality features” throughout, while its boot stands at a cavernous 674 litres, and is further complemented by a large 124-litre frunk up front.
MG is also touting the safety credentials of the MGS6 EV, which has already netted a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating. Over 80% of the car’s body is apparently constructed from high strength steel, while seven airbags are offered as standard equipment.
The MGS6 EV will be launched in the U.K. before November 2025 ends. As of press time, it is still unclear if the car will eventually arrive in Singapore.
