What are fuel additives? Are they really effective? These are just some of the questions that car owners have in mind when they come across these two words. Fuel additives are compounds formulated to improve the quality and effectiveness of the fuels used in cars, trucks, buses or even ships. They may also be used for petrol and/or diesel fuel but for the purpose of this product, we shall limit our scope to additives added to petrol only.
There are several benefits of using fuel additives, some of which are enhancing the efficiency and performance of the engine, lower and cleaner emissions and preventing the build-up of sludge and other deposits throughout the entire fuel delivery system.
Many vehicle owners have second thoughts about purchasing fuel additives as they do not find it necessary, do not save much from using fuel additives, or they have not fully understood its advantages. Coupled with the fact that there are quite a number of brands that are available in the market, motorists are spoilt for choice when it comes to making a decision to purchase the small bottle of fluid. Most importantly, motorists presently also have to purchase separate products to achieve different objectives.
A car is usually sent for routine maintenance service at recommended mileage or duration intervals. During the maintenance service, the oil filter is changed and the blackened engine oil is flushed out to be replaced by a new pool of synthetic engine oil. A driver does not realise that nothing has been done to the cleaning of the fuel delivery system which includes the fuel pipe and parts from the fuel tank to the injector and injector valves sitting at the entrance of the motor engine. This results in deterioration of the performance of the car over time.
To draw an analogy between a car and a human being, the fuel delivery system and the engine are just like the blood vessels and the heart of a human body. Over time, moisture from the air enters the fuel tank and reacts with the fuel to form gums and varnishes which stick to the walls of the pipelines and clog up the injectors. This is the same as cholesterol and fat built up in our blood vessels which cause the blood flow to be obstructed. Adding fuel additive to the fuel tank will improve the efficiency of the engine as all the deposits formed along the fuel delivery system will be removed. The deposits eliminated will be brought to the engine chamber where they are combusted at the first instance of ignition.
PF-700 - Going the extra mile
PF-700 is developed and manufactured in the U.S.A. using patented technology. The product has been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) since 2002 and proven in the upstream North and South America markets since 2004. PF-700 is an all-in-one petrol fuel conditioner designed to enhance combustion of fuel and clean the entire fuel delivery system simultaneously as well as increase the mileage of the vehicle.
The slightly acidic amber liquid has a flash point of 94 degrees Celsius. Flash point is the lowest temperature at which a liquid can form an ignitable mixture in air near the surface of the liquid. In layman's terms, this means that PF-700 is not flammable under normal conditions. This is opposed to, say, petrol, which has a flash point of -40 degrees Celsius, and will ignite at room temperature near a source of ignition. Motorists can safely store a few bottles of the fuel conditioner in their vehicles, feeling assured in the knowledge that they will not ignite due to the hot weather in Singapore.
The key selling point of PF-700 is its ability to provide a series of benefits to the motorist just by only using a single product. Besides being able to boost the octane number of the fuel by six, which allows the driver to experience a powerful drive and a quieter engine with reduced vibrations, this fuel conditioner is also able to clean the injector and fuel system of the vehicle. They are able to opt for a lower grade of petrol and acquire PF-700 to boost the octane number of the petrol in their vehicles. The combined benefits supercede the cost of the small bottle of fluid.
In the context of Singapore, a petrol powered five-year old 1.6-litre car saw a mileage improvement of 6.5 percent after the first trial. The car's mileage improved by a commendable 21.4 percent after the seventh trial and stabilized thereafter. Each bottle of PF-700 has a capacity of 65ml and treats up to 65 litres of petrol per use (i.e. 1:1000 treatment ratio). The recommended usage is one cycle of six bottles for optimal results.
