  • The Xpeng G6: Here's what you should know

Carmakers from all over the world are relentlessly launching their range of electric vehicles and they are mostly SUVs, and Xpeng is no exception.

China is obviously not slowing down when it comes to electric vehicles (EVs). From Ora and Havel, a brand that's expected to launch in Singapore at the end of this year, to Geely-owned Zeekr and the ever-conquering BYD, China-made vehicles are slowly but steadily increasing their market share in the Singapore automotive industry.

And Xpeng is no exception to this.

Xpeng has recently launched the G6 mid-sized coupe SUV and it has big shoes to fill. It goes mainly head on with the Tesla Model Y, as well as the Audi Sportback Q4 e-tron, the BMW iX3 and the Mercedes-Benz EQC, amongst others. Here are several other important things you need to know about the Xpeng G6.

The Xpeng G6 should be arriving on our shores in August this year

    1. It's coming!

Firstly, and arguably the most important thing that you should know about, is that the Xpeng G6 is coming to Singapore. With all things considered, homologation and necessary checks, the new SUV should be launched some time in August this year.

Premium Automobiles Pte Ltd, an exclusive retail partner of Audi cars in Singapore since 1999, will be the appointed authorised distributor of the Xpeng brand. This move represents Premium's second venture into distributing a Chinese EV brand, after being appointed the distributor for Zeekr, a luxury EV brand from Chinese automotive giant Geely last December.

The Standard Range gives you a decent 435km of range on a full charge and will finish the century sprint in 6.9 seconds

    2. Not one but two!

When the Xpeng G6 arrives then, it will not just be one but two different variants - the single motor rear-wheel driven Standard Range, and the single motor rear-wheel driven Long Range. These two variants should get a 66kWh battery pack each, which will allow the Standard Range model to enjoy 435km of range. The Long Range will have a healthier 570km of range on a full charge.

In terms of output, Standard Range variant gets 250bhp and 440Nm of torque, allowing it to finish the century sprint in 6.9 seconds. The Long Range model, on the other hand, will have 280bhp and a similarly rated 440Nm of torque. It'll hit the 100km/h mark from nought in a slightly quicker 6.7 seconds.

From what Sgcarmart understands, the single motor rear-wheel driven Standard Range will set you back approximately $220k, including COE.

If it happens, and we hope it does, the juicier dual-motor all-wheel driven Performance variant may come to Singapore

    3. Possible three in the future!

While the two variants will be confirmed for Singapore, there's a chance Premium Automobiles will bring in the dual-motor all-wheel drive variant in the future. Dubbed the G6 Performance in Europe (apparently, it's called Performance Max in China), the car is certainly powerful on the go.

Available with 470bhp and 660Nm of torque on tap, the Xpeng G6 performance will hit the 100km/h mark in just 4.1 seconds - undoubtedly impressive for a car that weighs over two tonnes. Plus, drivers get to enjoy a decent 550km of range from the 87.5kWh battery pack.

Thanks to the new platform, the Xpeng G6 is capable of super fast charging under the right charging voltage

    4. New car, new platform

More than just its range is the fact that the car is based on an all new 800V SEPA 2.0 platform, which allows for super fast charging. In Singapore, it will take some 20 minutes to get the car from 10% to 80%.

This platform is also adaptable and flexible for multiple vehicle platforms with wheelbases between 1,800mm and 3,200 mm and can be expanded to support a wide range of vehicle types such as sedan, coupe, hatchback, stationwagon, and etc.
