Three of six major renewal programmes for the North-South and East-West lines will be completed by mid this year with the remaining three by early 2020.
Rail operator SMRT is upgrading a fleet of 20-year old trains, by overhauling 19 six-car trains, used for the North-South and East-West Lines.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) and Singapore Mass Rapid Transport (SMRT) are accelerating plans to upgrade older lines.
