The car also goes ahead to clear the existing world record mark of 412.28km/h, which was set by a low volume US car maker, Shelby SuperCars, with the Ultimate Aero on a closed 19 km stretch in the Nevada way back in 2007.
To confirm the news of the record breaking feat, which was conducted amidst tight security, at the parent company Volkswagen's 21km test track called Ehra-Lessien , in late June, the Bugatti company says that the Supersport model was used by driver Pierre-Henri Raphanel to set the record. The man is also Bugatti's official test driver. The first round of tests were held anti-clockwise against a prevailing wind, which enabled the Supersport to hit a reduced speed of 427.933 km/h. With the wind assistance, the car breezed through to a smooth 431.211 km/h in the clockwise direction.
Bugatti has tweaked the engine of the Veyron 16.4 to hike its peak power from 987 bhp to a whopping 1183 bhp. The Torque too soars to a magnum 1106lb ft from the existing 921lb ft. The roof also comes with two new NACA style ducts. The aerodynamic modifications , which include a double diffuser at the rear and a newly worked out tailpipe, have surely added a zing to the old model. Bugatti claims they have produced around 260 of the planned 300 of Veyron 16.4. 249 of these cars have been shipped off to their prestigious customers.
