Hyundai has posted its sales figures for the year 2010, recording its best ever fourth-quarter sales result

South Korea's largest automaker managed to shift 3,612,487 vehicles in 2010, an increase of 16.3 per cent from the year before. Of those, 1,730,682 vehicles were produced in South Korea, while 1,881,805 vehicles were made in Hyundai's overseas plants. Hyundai is targeting to achieve 3.9 million vehicle sales in 2011.

Sales revenue for Hyundai rose by 15.4 per cent to US$33 billion, thanks to increased sales and a wider product range, while operating profit also rose by 44.4 per cent. Net profit increased by 77.8 per cent to US$4.7 billion thanks to robust performance at Hyundai's overseas plants and subsidiaries. Hyundai's fourth quarter result for 2010 was also its best ever, with recorded earnings of US$1.3 billion, up from US$849.5 million from the same period in 2009.

Hyundai is facing booming sales in developing markets such as China and India, thanks to its strategy ofintroducing new models specifically designed for local customers. The Korean automaker managed to clock sales of 700,000 and 600,000 units in China and India respectively, while it has also began producing the Solaris compact car specifically for the Russian market to further increase its presence in developing nations.
