  • Lexus' new supercar already sold out

Toyota has announced that all 500 of its hot, LFA supercars have been sold.

What these 500 eager buyers will receive is a real-life Toyota supercar. Complete with a carbon fibre-reinforced polymer body, and a high-revving 4.8-liter V10™that churns out 552bhp.

Most of the critical engine components are made from titanium, which causes this fire-breathing V10 to weigh less than most V6's. Underneath the sharply angled carbon fibre bodywork is more exotic weight saving materials and many precise computer systems. All of this futuristic wizardry adds up to a staggering 0-100 km/h time of only 3.7 seconds!

It went on sale back in October, with a base sticker price of $375,000 (USD). Specific sales data hasn't been released. But, it's believed that over 1/3 of the LFA's were sold in Germany™which also happens to be home of the famous Nurburg Ring. Coincidence?

In the US, customers were only allowed a 2-year lease because Lexus wanted to prevent speculators from buying the cars, and selling them for 3-4 times the price. Ironically; even though the LFA has an enormous sticker price, Toyota claims that it will lose money on every LFA that it sells. This is partly due to the high cost of exotic materials like, carbon fiber, and titanium.

Lexus has only planned to build 20 LFA's per month, starting in December 2010. A track-tuned, Nurburg edition is slated for 2012.
