MINI Plant Oxford is now offering classic Mini owners the option to convert their cars into fully-electric vehicles.
Called the MINI Recharged project, a team of from the plant is offering classic Mini owners the option to swap out the petrol-powered engine in their cars for a 121bhp electric motor, allowing them to experience traditional go-kart handling with an emission-free drivetrain, while extending the vehicle's life in a sustainable way.
The converted cars also get a new central instrument cluster which shows the remaining battery charge alongside the speed and gear selected The new electric motor will propel the classic Mini from zero to 100km/h in approximately nine seconds, while the energy supplied for the motor will come from a battery that can be charged at up to 6.6kW and offers a predicted range of up to 160km.
Each MINI Recharged will also receive a new central instrument cluster - an iconic design touch of the classic cars - which now displays the drive temperature, the selected gear, range and speed.
The project is also said to only make use of reversible changes, while the original engine of each vehicle is also marked and stored, so the converted cars can easily be reversed back to utilise internal combustion at a later date if so desired.
