Opel's ecoFLEX technology, which reduces fuel consumption and emissions especially for city driving, is already available for the Astra 1.3 CDTI model. Now though, Opel is introducing ecoFLEX to the Astra 2.0 CDTI as an optional extra, with the technology available for both the Astra 2.0 CDTI hatchback and the Sports Tourer estate.

The Astra 2.0 CDTI ecoFLEX comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission, as well as Start/Stop technology. The addition of these efficiency technologies help to lower consumption by an estimated 13 per cent over the standard Astra 2.0 CDTI, with Opel claiming a fuel consumption figure of 4.5 litres per 100km for the new ecoFLEX model.

Aside from the Start/Stop system, other technologies in the Astra ecoFLEX includes CleanTech Combustion Technology for the 2.0 CDTI engine, which promises clean combustion while also reducing engine noise by means of adjusting fuel injection to the combustion process in real time.

Like the Astra 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX, the new 2.0 CDTI also has an active aero shutter incorporated in the front grille and refined under-body aerodynamics. Additionally, Opel has announced that all Astra models with manual gearboxes will have a shift indicator showing the driver the ideal moment to change gear in order to improve fuel economy.
