  • Record Porsche turnout at Das Treffen 9

Southeast Asia's largest Porsche gathering saw a record-breaking number of cars come together at Das Treffen 9 in Bangkok.

Das Treffen simply means "the gathering" in German. But when it comes to Porsche enthusiasts, it's no simple gathering. Held at the IMPACT Speed Park in Bangkok, Thailand, this year's Das Treffen 9 saw a record turnout of 627 cars and over 3,000 attendees from across the region.

The theme for this ninth edition of Das Treffen was "Limited Edition", and expectedly a stunning showcase of rare models (modern and classic alike) took centre stage. A stunning collection of '1 of XX' cars were on display, including the likes of the Carrera GT (1 of 1,270), the 997-generation 911 GT3 RS 4.0 (1 of 600), a 991-generation 911 GT2 RS Clubsport 25 (1 of 25), and a 993-generation 911 GT2 (1 of 57), amongst many others.

"Limited Edition" was this year's theme, and the stunning selection of rare Porsches did not disappoint

But these rare cars form just one part of the Das Treffen story. Organised by Sihabutr Xoomsai, the event is really an opportunity for Porsche owners and enthusiasts to come together. And come together they really did. Besides an expectedly large number of Thai cars, Porsche owners from around the region also made their way to Das Treffen, with many actually driving their own cars from their respective countries. Singapore was represented as well - a contingent of almost 40 cars drove all the way up to Bangkok, enduring serious storms and even a little bit of flooding along the way. And these weren't just comfortable-riding Macans and Cayennes - indeed, we spotted a number of GT3 and GT3 RS cars amongst the contingent (even a 992 GT3 RS with its massive wing and insane aero package. Now that's commitment).

The 40-strong Singapore contingent that drove up to Bangkok included some very dedicated GT3 RS drivers

And while a vast selection of 911s of varying generations (we even spotted an original 911T!) is expected, there were a hosts of other Porsches as well. These include SUV models like the Macan and Cayenne, mid-engine Boxster and Caymans, as well as a number of Taycans and Panameras as well. And there were some true classics, too - a few 356s were in attendance as well (we spotted one 356 Speedster!).

Porsche Asia Pacific and Porsche Thailand also took part in the festivities, with a Porsche Village hospitality zone with a two-storey pavilion that allowed guests to take in the colourful views and vibrant noises. The pavilion also featured racing simulators as well as a number of cars on display, including rare models like a stunningly-liveried 918 Spyder and the 911 S/T, as well as a collection of contemporary models including the new Macan and Taycan Cross Turismo (we were tasked to drive one to the display). And at the heart of the Porsche Village was the most singularly rare Porsche - the one-off Taycan Turbo S Celestial Jade.

Cars across Porsche's long heritage were represented - from a classic 911 to the modern all-electric Taycan Cross Turismo

"Das Treffen exemplifies that Porsche is as much about its sports cars as it is about the community," said Yannick Ott, Director Marketing at Porsche Asia Pacific. "Every year, for nine years and counting, we are heartened to experience the vibrancy of this gathering. Meeting all sorts of different people of different backgrounds, from Thailand and all over the region, customers and fans alike, who come together in Bangkok united in their passion for the Porsche brand - there is really no substitute."

Das Treffen 9 concludes a remarkable 2024 for Porsche in Thailand, highlighted by many significant milestones, such as the launch of the first regionally-assembled Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe, to the announcement of Porsche Design Tower Bangkok and the opening of the passion space Curvistan Bangkok.
