  • RUF RGT-8 transplants V8 engine into Porsche 911

Porsche specialist tuners RUF has unveiled its latest creation, the RGT-8, which features the first V8 engine in a Porsche 911.

The RGT-8 is based on the latest Porsche 911, and "is powered by a completely new RUF designed V8 engine with a 180° crankshaft flatcrank." Ruf says the engine features "four valves arranged spherically together with multipoint fuel injection which ensure optimal mixture conditions while the dry-sump system supplies the necessary lubrication." The Ruf V8 engine has a capacity of 4.5-litres, and is capable of producing 542bhp and 500Nm of torque.

For maximum performance, Ruf has also made the RGT-8 as light as possible, with weight-saving features such as aluminium doors, an aluminium hood, a carbon fibre engine cover, and a carbon fibre rear spoiler. Other performance additions include ceramic brakes, an integrated roll-cage, and 19-inch forged alloy wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires.

Ruf also offers a Frère styling package, which is inspired by the Porsche 550 Coupe that Paul Frère drove to victory in the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans, and consists of redesigned front fenders, a unique front end, and special interior trim. Ruf will officially launch the RGT-8 in 2011.
