Volvo has announced that it is rolling out Apple CarPlay compatibility to its all new XC90 crossover, together with some updates to its Sensus Connect system along with the CarPlay release.

Like other CarPlay applications, the system basically turns the vehicle's centre screen into a mirror of your Apple iPhone. However, Volvo's CarPlay system works in conjunction with Sensus Connect, allowing the user to easily jump between CarPlay and the XC90's embedded infotainment functions. In addition, the software update includes new Pandora, Yelp and Find Parking applications. XC90 owners will also be provided with updated navigation maps.

"The Apple CarPlay experience enhances the award-winning user interface already available on the XC90 and just announced S90 sedan," said Lex Kerssemakers, President and CEO of Volvo Cars of North America. "The Sensus Connect touchscreen gives us flexibility to update software and add features to cars after they have been delivered to customers. This is an important part of our commitment to long-term customer satisfaction."
