  • A name you can trust: Who exactly is ECICS?

    15 May 2026

Having celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025, Singapore’s homegrown general insurer continues to place its customers first.

The process of getting to know someone, and then trusting them thereafter, starts with getting their name right.

So here's a quick primer to set the record straight: You wouldn't read 'ECICS' out as the constituent letters of its name (as in 'E-C-I-C-S'), but rather, as 'e-kicks' (pronouncing 'e' the same way you would start pronounce the 'a' in 'apple').

Having celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, ECICS has become one of Singapore's established homegrown insurers, blending well-honed expertise with an ever-keen eye on what customers need. And in case you're still unfamiliar with the name (and if so, where have you been?), here's what you need to know!

    Homegrown name you can trust

ECICS was birthed right here in Singapore in 1975 - just 10 years after the nation gained independence. That should give you a clear indication of just how long it has been in the business.

Starting life as a specialist in performance bonds and credit insurance, the company has steadily grown into one of Singapore's most reputable names in the general insurance business.

ECICS has been fully licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a general insurer since 2013, and offers a variety of insurance products including home content and motor insurance, among others

In fact, since 2013, ECICS has been fully licensed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) as a general insurer - meaning it has the authority to underwrite and issue a diverse portfolio of insurance products with complete operational autonomy.

Among the varied insurance products you'll be able to find yourself at ECICS are domestic worker, home content, personal accident, and of course, motor insurance.

ECICS's innovations in the insurance range from thoughtful enhancements like the Comprehensive Family NCD Builder Plan to special perks for EV drivers

Exciting innovations in the insurance sector

Stellar reputation aside, however, ECICS's commitment to building trust among its customers is also augmented by its desire to go the extra mile in understanding their needs. Arguably, it is precisely this special quality that sets it apart from the pack.

For instance, the company's industry-first Comprehensive Family NCD Builder Plan promises to give our young drivers a leg up in their car ownership journeys by helping them build their NCDs from the moment they take to the road.

The Comprehensive Family NCD Builder Plan promises to give our young drivers a leg up in building their NCD values from the moment they get their licenses

Under the Plan, family members can be added as named drivers, with each of them able to earn a 10% Family NCD for every year of safe driving, up to a maximum of 50%. And that's not all - the Plan also includes comprehensive coverage for the entire family that isn't skewed just toward the main driver!

Simultaneously, ECICS remains at the forefront of the insurance landscape with policies that are reflective of current customer needs.

In a car buying landscape that is quickly warming to electric vehicles (EVs), ECICS has also been quick to adapt its vehicle insurance policies so that they cater specifically to the risks that may accompany EV ownership.

Apart from comprehensive coverage for their precious cars, Tesla owners stand to gain Tesla fractional shares when they insure with ECICS

This accounts for features that are not typically recognised by regular motor insurance, including the autonomous driving functions that many EVs boast, damage to their battery packs, faulty charging equipment, and even specialist EV repairs.

On the note of EV drivers, Tesla owners, in particular, stand to gain from insuring with ECICS, since they are entitled to fractional Tesla shares when they buy or renew a Tesla Motor Insurance policy with ECICS (available until 31 December 2026).

The road ahead: With its roots firmly planted, ECICS is here to continue serving families for the decades ahead

50 years, and many more to come

Once more, these extra considerations and added perks point to a company that never fails to have customers at the very core of its operations.

Having planted its roots firmly in Singapore over the last 50 years, ECICS is here to continue growing and serving families in Singapore. Whether it's protecting your car, your home, or your family, the company remains steadfast in its core values of thoughtfulness and innovation, as well as in preserving its position at the forefront of the insurance landscape.

All that means you'll probably be seeing its name more and more in the years to come. So the next time you're heading over to the ECICS website or to its office to get yourself protected, just remember: You've already been taught how to pronounce it right.
