The Business Times reported male and female drivers make an equal number of accident claims according to statistics from Aviva.

According to statistics by online motor insurer Aviva, accident claims in Singapore comprise of an equal proportion of males and females.

Pan Jing Long, Aviva Singapore's Head of General Insurance said, "Gender aside, drivers should always practise safe driving habits, regardless of their driving experience and confidence in handling a vehicle."

An expert in the matter agreed and added most insurers do not base their quotes strictly on gender but most likely the age of the insurer.

Aviva also revealed some interesting statistics. Most accidents occur during the rush hour periods of 7:00am to 10:00am and 5:00pm to 8:00pm on weekdays. The average accident occurrence on the weekends is also almost on par to weekdays at 14 percent.

According to Mr Pan, one in every five cars insured by Aviva that met with an accident made a claim. Of these, 23 percent of accidents occurred on an expressway, while 12 percent resulted even before the driver had left the carpark, The Business Times reported.

It also revealed the top 10 roads (not in order) where accidents are most likely to occur - Bukit Timah Road, Upper Serangoon Road, Thomson Road, Upper Thomson Road, Braddell Road, Clementi Road, Yio Chu Kang Road, Lornie Road, Alexandra Road and Balestier Road.

Aviva's top four accidents based on claims are front-to-rear collision at 43 percent, front-to-side collision at 17 percent, a chain collision involving from three or more cars at 13 percent, and a side swipe - which typically occurs when two vehicles are making a turn - at 11 percent.
