Mercedes-Benz builds 600,000th G-Class

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has built its 600,000^th example of the G-Class.

Manufactured in Austria, the special G580 with EQ Technology comes in obsidian black metallic. The firm only recently launched a special Stronger Than The 1980s edition of the G-Class to mark the 500,000^th example of the G-Class that rolled off the production line in 2023, built as a tribute to the W460, which in turn is said to have conquered people's hearts in the 1980s with its unique combination of superior on and off-road capability.

Mercedes-Benz adds that with the introduction of its Manufaktur personalisation service for the G-Class in 2019, close to 90% of the model’s customers have chosen at least one Manufaktur option, while personalisation options average three per vehicle. The service has been offering customers the option to finish their G-Class in a choice of up to 20,000 colours since 2024.

The G-Class is described by Mercedes-Benz as one of the longest-produced passenger car model series in its own history alongside the E-Class and S-Class.
