Solid hardware ruined by local engineering decisions. BYD is eating Kia's lunch

The EV5 is sturdy, safe, and amazingly spacious, though its sheer bulk makes it cumbersome to maneuver in narrow HDB car parks.

Mechanical quality aside, the local Hyundai/Kia team made a huge mistake by dumbing down the car's smart features. There's no mobile app for remote battery checking, no Digital Key, and the HUD doesn't support Apple CarPlay map directions—all features standard and MORE in overseas units costing 3x less.

No wonder you almost never see an EV5 on Singapore roads, but BYD Sealion 7s are everywhere. Chinese carmakers are offering full feature parity, and these poor local engineering decisions are going to ruin what could have been a successful "Made in Singapore" EV.

I just completed my first 1,000 km in my new Kia EV5 Earth, and I absolutely love this car. To me, it's one of the most complete family EVs in Singapore in this price range, offering comfort, practicality, thoughtful features, and refinement.

The ride quality is excellent, and the premium features, practical interior, and high-quality materials make it a very compelling package. It's a car I can see myself happily keeping for many years.

Reconsider your options

Bought a new EV5 earth variant from KIA Leng Kee and had being driving the car for 6 months. Overall the drive is comfortable and acceleration is acceptable for overtaking in SG.

The turning ratio is slightly not enough. Usually I cannot complete a 2 lane U-turn without making a reverse. My first 15k servicing took around 7 hours which is similar to ICE car servicing. Best of all my new car is not even registered in KIA system. Not sure if all the warranty and entitlement is still valid.

I have been doing much research on this car. Having own an Ioniq 5 for the past 1 year, it just made my decision making way easier and faster. Kia being the sister brand of Hyundai, alot of the functions that i love in ioniq 5, are present in Kia EV5 too. The main difference would be EV5 is an SUV vs Ioniq 5 being a hatchback crossover. Both have amazing space to accommodate 5 pax. Boot space are decently large too.

I did my test drive in C&C Alexandra. Dom Wong assisted me in the showroom. His professionalism n knowledge are top notch. Its great when i am making a big item purchase and being accompanied by someone as friendly as Dom. From enquiries till car collection has been totally flawless. Thanks Dom ?
